All she wanted was a flower - 825 Words

All she wanted was a flower (Essay Sample) Content: SurnameInstructorCourse Date All She Wanted Was a Flower Maci would be the average teenage girl, living in the average village, doing average chores for her aging mother hoping that she would soon get an average suitor, and get married. Only that she was not. You see, she was born under strange circumstances, her mother was old, but not aging, she did chores, and which were not in any way average. She was hoping for a suitor, but knew no one average would dare near their little hut on the hill. Secretly she wished for a prince, and knew that she could have one come after her with a snap of her fingers, only that her mother forbade it. Use of the old tradition magic was illegal anyway (Marquez 17). Not that Maci cared anyway. She was becoming of age, and it bothered her that she probably would not get a suitor and would remain as lonely as she had been the whole of her life. Although her mother could not age, she was growing up fast. This wasnt her worry either, as mu ch as her mother fussed about her skills in the traditional magic. Her father would not have cared about this, only that he had died a few years back. Despite her different background, she was just like any other teenage girl. Her biggest worry was her face, and she checked it every day. On her nineteenth birthday, a young man came knocking on their door. Her mother welcomed him, and his group. This was her first suitor, at a time when most of her age mates had received more than five. He was tall, with deep blue eyes that had a piercing glare. He did not seem scared, possibly because he was dressed in full military regalia, complete with his sword. He was from the Isle. Once pleasantries were exchanged, the boy and girl were allowed to take a walk, and possibly take a liking of each other. Maci was not too keen to what the young man had to say, possibly because all he spoke of were his wartime experiences, a war that she did not want to be reminded of. One that had left a scar in her heart. The couple got to Macis favorite part in the woods, a grassy spot with a cliff flanking it, with a river flowing from the cliff into a pool - as though the river had been on a long journey, only to find a resting place in the pool. The warrior (Maci had decided to name him that secretly) was not taken in by the sight, and this somewhat put off the girl- since she was hoping he would be intrigued. Macis flowers were still intact, a huge clump of dandelions (yes, dandelions) hanging from the cliff. This set was placed there by her father, when he practiced the old tradition magic. She had this fantasy that whoever would pick her a flower from the clump would marry her- but then again, it was a fantasy. Suddenly, the warrior drew his sword and stepped towards the cliff, and headed directly for the clump, which was about ten meters from the ground, on the cliff. He then aimed his sword at the clump and took a huge swing. Maci screamed out at the warrior and at the same tim e a huge ghostly wind blew, that it cast both of them to the ground. After the wind passed, the warrior stood himself up slowly- shaken by the on goings. Maci was not about to explain to an innocent young man why there was a curse on a flower, and what it had to do with her. She gathered up the frays of her long dress and ran off, back into the woods. The startled fellow just stared. The mother was shaking with anger by the time the warrior got back to the hut. Angry that her daughter had dared to expose someone from outside their realm to the magic, the sacred magic. Did she not know the consequences pf her actions? The mother was quick to send away their guests, as she had a cleansing ceremony to prepare invocations for (Marquez 17...
